MC76 KIT

In the spring of 2003 members of the now defunct prosoundweb recpit forum were asking questions about etching their own 1176 PCB. In order to save them the pain of chemical etching, Purple Audio sold a few surplus MC76 circuit boards to members of the DIY community. Many of the people who purchased boards and other parts have done a great job figuring out the rest and building their own 1176 units. We offer a minimal kit, including the difficult to source components and a parts list for ordering the standard parts from online vendors. Some may think offering a kit similar to a current product is self defeating, we don't think so. We like the idea of people interested enough to put together their own units.

The kit includes:

  • MC77 PCB
  • 600Ω variable T-pad attenuator
  • Custom line input transformer
  • Custom line output transformer
  • Custom toroidal power transformer
  • two FDH333 low leakage diodes
  • NTE5202 zener stud diode
  • Ratio and metering switches
  • Complete Parts list with supplier info
The kit does NOT  include:
    Detailed assembly instructions
  • Enclosure
  • Front Panel
  • VU Meter
  • Knobs
  • Pots
  • Capacitors, Resistors, misc. Diodes
  • Connectors, Screws, misc. Hardware

This is not an ideal beginner kit, nor is it a great way to get a cheap compressor. The ability to read a schematic and fill in the blanks by thinking for yourself is required. Limited tech support is available through email, and we guarantee the kit components.

The PCB, attenuator, transformers, and diodes included in the kit are the same components used in our current product, the MC77. For more information about the components we use, please see the MC77 parts page.

The parts list included in the kit is only for stuffing the audio path and power supply as an MC76. For those that want to add the features of the MC77, that information can be pulled off the schematic. The MC76 kit parts list and MC76/77 schematic are both available as PDF downloads below.
