LED Meter Light Kit

This is something we came up with to eliminate the hassle of changing the meter light bulbs...

The kit is free to all owners of the MC76 ... AND is available for $30 (plus shipping and handling) to owners of UREi 1176, LA-3A, and LA-4A owners who are tired of replacing bulbs.

We would be happy to install the kit for free in any MC76 unit (round trip shipping is on you); While your unit is here we would look it over and assess its level of happiness. The original warranty runs 3 years but even if the unit is more than three years old most any repairs or updates (if needed) would be at no charge unless there is actual physical damage or obvious evidence of abuse – we like to see our units are working well... (of course we'll ask you before changing anything beyond installing the Light Kit.

The installation directions are fairly easy.

If you know how to use a soldering iron and follow these simple directions you should be all set.... but we do have to tell you to disconnect BOTH ends of the power cord and make absolutely sure the unit is de-energized before you start poking around inside. If you are not sure of THAT then don't open the box!

If you can solder, follow directions and know when to ask for help then you should be in no danger of voiding your warranty.

Instructions

Step 1 Disconnect inputs, outputs and power. Remove both top and bottom covers from the unit.

Step 2 While holding onto the metal bracket on the top of the meter remove the lamp holders from the bracket.

Step 3 With a soldering iron remove the yellow lamp wires from the motherboard.

Step 4 Remove the metal lamp mounting bracket from the top of the meter. This is not easy as we used nail polish to keep the nuts from loosening. Be careful not to bend the posts coming out of the meter because they will rip out.

Step 5 Slide the new LED board onto the posts. This is a little tricky - it does fit but it is snug. You will need to keep the screws that hold the angle bracket to the PCB loose until you have slid the other bend onto the posts. Then put the nuts back on the posts and tighten. Do not over tighten, you will rip the posts out. Then tighten the flat head screws that hold he PCB to the angle bracket.

Step 6 Solder the two wires down to the motherboard. The purple wire goes into the hole with the star shaped pad - The black wire goes into the hole with the round pad.

Step 7 Test. When you power up the unit the LED board should light up. The boards have been tested here and if you wired it right it should work fine. DO NOT TOUCH THE INSIDE OF THE UNIT WHILE THE POWER IS ON.

Step 8 Put top and bottom lids back on.

Step 9 Enjoy the lights.
